Annual Alumni Reunion: Falling Forward Into Recovery

Moving in a forward direction is key to recovery, no matter how rapid or slow the pace of that movement might be. This year’s reunion theme, Falling Forward Into Recovery, reflects that belief. Like any undertaking, the road to recovery unfolds gradually and has phases that range from scary and overwhelming to calm and joyful. Join us for an enlightening day of workshops in which you will reconnect with fellow alumni and strengthen your journey as you move forward in recovery.

We invite you to bring one person to celebrate with you and fine-tune their skills for supporting your recovery.

Honoring Our Bodies: Workshop for Women

Today, more than ever, society and media have a major impact on the way people perceive their bodies and what “healthy” means to them. Interest in Health At Every Size (HAES®), a weight-neutral, evidence-based alternative to disease prevention and human wellness, is on the rise as an alternative to the traditional weight loss messages. The Renfrew Center of Nashville will be offering a workshop on these principles.

In this workshop, attendees will gain an understanding of how HAES:
• Offers an alternative approach to health improvement that is weight neutral.
• Is our best bet at helping without harming, without unintended negative consequences.
• Allows us to view health within the context of the whole person and the complex factors
  that affect our wellbeing.
• Provides the opportunity to examine our own biases about weight and body size.

Open to alumni, professionals and the community • Light refreshments will be served

The Renfrew Center of Nashville offers an Emotional Eating Group.

The Emotional Eating Group provides a safe and supportive environment in which women can explore the emotional, behavioral and interpersonal factors influencing their eating behaviors as well as their feelings, thoughts and beliefs about their bodies. While focusing on the underlying issues of emotional and binge eating, participants gain the skills and confidence to tolerate a range of internal emotional experiences without resorting to the use of eating disorder symptoms. This group also addresses issues related to family, work, relationships, and phase of life struggles so that individuals can explore lifestyle changes that promote recovery.

This group is led by Laurie Cooper, PsyD.
